About Me

Loving Your Little Landscape

I have never been a natural gardener. For years, I struggled to keep basic houseplants alive, only to kill them at the first opportunity. It was difficult and stressful to buy a home with a yard, but I knew that I might be able to learn what I was doing wrong and correct the problem. To start off, I focused heavily on the lawn, and tried hard to keep it trimmed and well-maintained. Next, I cleaned up the flowerbeds. It was a lot of work, but I knew that it would pay off in the end. When I was done, my front yard was gorgeous, and guess what--it even stayed alive. This blog is all about loving your little landscape.

How To Create An Enchanting Landscape On A Tight Budget

by Charlotte White

Designing a landscape your neighbors will be awed by while staying within a tight budget is possible and can be a lot of creative fun. You can create a landscape that will look great with a few dollars and a whole lot of creative energy. Follow these tips for learning how you can turn your lawn into an enchanting garden while sticking to your budget.

River Rocks And Your Landscape

If you live near a river, visiting it in search of rocks is a good idea. When looking for river rocks, choose the ones that are easy to carry and are as flat as possible. Some of the landscape additions you can put together using river rocks include the following:

  • Pathways: Laying flat river rocks in a winding pathway through your garden can add a unique nostalgic charm. You can use a spade to dig up enough soil for laying the rocks flat enough to safely walk on and to keep them congruent to one another.
  • Flowerbeds: Rivers rocks can be used as borders for flowerbeds and they add a natural appeal you can't get with other, man-made materials. When using river rocks around flowerbeds, be sure to choose ones that are around the same size.
  • Mulch encasement: If you want to put colorful mulch around the bottom of your trees, river rocks make great encasement for keeping it in place.

One of the best benefits of using river rocks is they are free and are usually plentiful.

Talk To Friends And Family About Their Plants

Maybe your mom or dad has a gorgeous climbing rosebush in their yard. Did you know you can get a clipping from it and start growing your own rosebush? For free? Ask your friends and family about the vegetation in their yards you like and see if they will let you take a clipping from each one. You can start a clipping by placing it in a glass jar of water and sitting in the right amount of sunlight. Once the clipping starts growing roots of its own, you can plant it in your yard. You may be surprised how many plants you might end up with in this way and all of them at no charge for landscaping services from a company like Area Wide Service.

Planning ahead is a good way to approach landscaping when you are on a tight budget. Take the time to draw out your plans and mark each area off as you finish it. When you have drawn out plans on paper, it's a lot easier to make changes without spending a dime.
