About Me

Loving Your Little Landscape

I have never been a natural gardener. For years, I struggled to keep basic houseplants alive, only to kill them at the first opportunity. It was difficult and stressful to buy a home with a yard, but I knew that I might be able to learn what I was doing wrong and correct the problem. To start off, I focused heavily on the lawn, and tried hard to keep it trimmed and well-maintained. Next, I cleaned up the flowerbeds. It was a lot of work, but I knew that it would pay off in the end. When I was done, my front yard was gorgeous, and guess what--it even stayed alive. This blog is all about loving your little landscape.

Buying A New Home With No Landscaping? 2 Tips To Help You Create A Beautiful Yard

by Charlotte White

If you purchased a new home and it has no landscaping, there are many things you can do to create a beautiful yard. Below is information on two things you should consider so you and your family can enjoy spending time outside in your beautiful yard.

Plant Flowers

The easiest and most important thing you should do is plant some flowers. Annuals are available at any garden center and are generally inexpensive. Annuals are also often already in bloom, so they add instant beauty to your yard. Plant some flowers in front of your home or plant flowers in large containers and set them around your property. If you have a front porch, you could put a table on it with potted flowers sitting on it or hang hanging baskets filled with flowers.

You should consider adding a flower garden to your yard. You could fill it with both annual and perennial flowers. Consider where you place the flower garden and how much sun it receives. This way, you know the best flowers to purchase so they grow well for you. If you plant flowers that love shade, you do not want them sitting in the hot sun most of the day. If you choose a flower garden add an edging around it and use mulch to make it look even more beautiful.

Add Landscaping Lights

One thing to consider is what your landscaping looks like at night. If you want to brighten things up, you can install landscaping lights. If you do this, you can hire an electrician to install the lights for you. Working with electricity can be dangerous and must be installed correctly.

There are flood lights that you can purchase, which are also known as security lights. They can automatically turn on if someone is close to the light. There are downlights that are installed higher so the light shines down to focus on something. There are also uplights that shine up to provide a focal point. Add some lights to your trees, much like you light up a Christmas tree.

If you do not want to use electricity, there are solar landscaping lights that you can purchase. These are generally easy to install, and you simply stick them in the ground wherever you want light.

Hire a landscape designer to help you put together a beautiful landscaping design if you need help. This contractor can give you many tips and do the installations for you.
